I design and study equitable learning environments that enable young people, families and educators to become computational creators — able to use computing to create things they care about, develop identities as creators, and imagine the ways they can shape the world. My dissertation work focuses on the experiences of educators and how they can be supported to heal prior harms associated with STEM learning in order to disrupt the cycle of harm in their own learning environments. In my work I draw on community-based research, design-based research and ethnographic methods to study learning in context

I graduated from Northwestern University’s School of Education and Social Policy with a degree in learning sciences, a concentration in the design of learning environments and a certificate in asset-based community development. I am currently a fourth year PhD student advised by Ricarose Roque as part of the Creative Communities Lab. As a lab we explore how we can engage people to create, play, and learn together with technology. We are committed to designing and studying learning experiences for young people to create things they care about, develop identities as creators, and shape the world around them.
